I read this great article in the Wall Street Journal this weekend which makes a case against using color in the home. There were even quotes from Miles Redd, the man that knows how to work color, stating that he had a client recently who wanted a calm home. He instead focused on shapes, paint and textures to make the home come together. Even Celerie Kemble's soon-to-be-released book, Black and White, was mentioned. Did you know that it may be easier to find your interior design style by cutting back on color?

As I read the article I began to think about how I am drawn to more neutral interiors, especially in my own home. Although I love dreaming about grand rooms with many hues that marry together in the perfect way, I prefer warmer colors with lots of texture. It's taken me almost a year to decide this one little truth which has made decorating my home quite a task. Here are some of the inspiration shots I return to again and again when I keep thinking about putting my home together.

I was browsing the Waterworks site to check out the new Studio Collection after reading about it in Elle Decor. These new fixtures run about half the price of their regular line and it also includes tile! Hurry over to check it out because these fixtures are just waiting for a home. I noticed that Waterworks has a blog while on the site and stumbled upon this beauty. Imagine doing laundry here? This is a small picture but I bet this dark sink is the shiny gem in the room.

I'll take those tiles while I'm at it. Perfection!

Quinoa, it's what's for dinner

One of the good things about living in the D.C. area are the farmers markets. Every Saturday I awake with excitement to get to the market and buy up the produce for the week. So many things look so good, I usually end up buying too much and then have to decide how many things I can make. One of my favorite markets is in Falls Church, VA. Every week they have a restaurant tent that makes samples for everyone and we happened to get lucky and show up when the quinoa cakes were being made. I almost died and went to heaven when I tasted these, so thank goodness the recipe was available to take. Yesterday, I made these for dinner dinner and I am ready to make again because they were THAT good.

Being a vegetarian, I make meatless burgers often. The large ones often fall apart and crumble so now I make mini-versions and use mini-buns without fail. These were served with some homemade sweet potato fries and a bit of mayo, seasoned with lemon juice, pepper and garlic powder!

Quinoa Cakes with Kale and Sweet Potato Fries

Quinoa Cakes

1 C quinoa (here I used red, since it's all I had on hand)

1 1/2 C water

1/2 C goat cheese

2 egg yolks

1/2 C panko bread crumbs

2 TBS chopped scallion

salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Rinse quinoa and add to pan. Add water and bring to boil. Once the majority of the water is gone, cover and remove from heat. Let stand until tender. In a mixing bowl, combine goat cheese and egg yolks and stir with fork until well combined (this will look like mustard when ready). Once quinoa is ready and somewhat cooled, add to goat cheese/egg mixture along with remaining ingredients until well combined. Form into small patties and chill at least 30 minutes.

Add a few tablespoons of olive oil to a non-stick pan and heat to medium-high (until small bubbles appear). Add chilled patties and let brown on each side until done.

Kale Salad

1 bunch kale, cleaned and dried

zest of one lemon

4 TBS Extra Virgin Olive Oil

salt to taste

Directions:

Cut vein from kale and chop into small pieces. Place in a mixing bowl and add remaining ingredients (I went light on the oil, probably 2-3 TBS). Cover and refridgerate for one hour, at least. Season to taste.

Sweet Potato Fries

2 LBS sweet potato (I had one very large one from the market)

a few TBS Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Slice sweet potato in half and into thin, long slices. In mixing bowl, toss with olive oil, salt and pepper. Add fries to a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cook for approximately 30 minutes, tossing the fries about halfway through.

These were so yummy, I even had my meat-loving husband say he'd eat them again! A quick and easy recipe for the meat and non-meat eaters out there.

The past summer...

This summer was fabulous, filled with hot, humid days that included work, reading, cooking and some exploring. Admittedly, our home looks almost identical as when we moved in and I have had a very difficult time making decisions. There are big and small jobs on the list and I have made a few decisions so far, the first being a new sofa that will be delivered in the next few weeks. More to come on the house in future posts!

Here are a few snapshots of what I've been up to, including baking a blueberry custard pie (the number of pies and fruit tarts I made this summer will go unsaid. the husband enjoyed them but they are not all healthy, despite the fruit!)

Celebrating a summer weekend with a trip to St. Michael's, MD for some crabs and delicious drinks.

Hitting up some local farmers markets which may be my very favorite thing about this area. Really, they are spectacular!

We also visited this winery which was spectacular, along with Middlebury, VA which to me, is what Virginia always looked like in my mind. Gorgeous lands (it's horse country out here) and super cute boutiques like Creme de la Creme. Seriously, I need to forget my wallet next time I go here. The pottery was stunning.

Finally, I did a LOT of reading. Cookbooks, magazines and of course books, littered my coffee table. Some of my favorites included:

1) The Red Tent - Amazing read and I have recommended this to anyone that asks me for a new book to read.
2) A Thousand Splendid Suns - Could not read fast enough....nuff said.
3) The Happiness Project - Very uplifting read about making the most of each day, which led me to
4) Saint Therese of Lisieux - Beautiful autobiography about a girl that passed away at 24 years old, only to become a saint 28 years later.

A day to remember

I have been off the blogging bandwagon for some time now. Although almost a year into this move, the transition to a new town, new office and new people has been a difficult one for me. I have a busy fall but this summer I tried to enjoy things a bit. I'd say I succeeded too. Lately I've been thinking a lot about this little ole' blog and I have a few things scheduled for this week!

The attacks on 9/11 occurred while I was studying abroad in London. Having not been in the U.S. was very difficult at the time, almost causing me to leave and come back home. I have been reflecting all weekend about that day, the same thing you have all probably done. I will never forget that day and thinking about it this weekend has brought me not only emotion but sheer gratitude for all family, friends and opportunities I have had thus far.

More light posts to come but a huge thank you to all my readers out there!

Decorative cabinets... take em or leave em?

While watching Sarah's Cottage the other day, I noticed she had her husband's initial carved into two of the kitchen cabinets. Not much later, I found the incredible portfolio of Lucas Studio and stumbled upon a kitchen with some spectacular cabinets (be sure to check on their portfolio, it's amazing). Whether it be playing to a theme or sporting your initials, do you think these are here to stay?

Though we will not be living in our current home forever, I like the idea of this in a home you imagine yourself growing old in to add a bit of character.

I am basically obsessed with this image. All week I've been thinking about it. Between the incredible hardware, that FAUCET, the backsplash and that wine cooler, I am ready to move in. I do not even care that the sink is on the small side!

Personally, I think I'm onto this trend.

Barn life

Did you see this article in the New York Times on the fixer-upper barn? If not, it's worth a read. Owned by the founder of a venture capital firm, it was bought and restored to it's current day glory. My favorite, the amazing bathroom seen below. Originally a laundry room, the owner figured a bath would be more appropriate and I could not be happier with her decision.

Too early to have another wedding?

Since I have been looking at wedding pictures all over again (I shamefully admit to purchasing the new Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine) I cannot help but lust over the gowns that are out there. While noticing an ad for the White by Vera Wang at David's Bridal, I could not help but lust over these gowns designed by the one and only Vera at a lower price point. Maybe I'm late to the game here but I am ready to plan a renewal of the vows party come November if I can purchase one of these. Something tells me I am going to be told we can do this after 25 years or something but it's still worth a shot, right?

Sweet Dreams

Between this royal wedding coverage and the Twilight re-runs on TV (yes, I know the book is better but I continue to get sucked into that movie!) I have not taken enough time to focus on decorating the house. I have recently bought this duvet cover but other than that, our master bedroom is still pretty bare. Decisions are not my strong point when it comes to my own home.

In order to confuse myself even more, I continue to look and fall in love with bedding I do not currently own. It must be the warm weather because I am loving these colorful options from Serena & Lily right now. Oh, and has everyone seen the Dwell Studio lines at Target? I just bought a new tablecloth today. LOVE the prints!

Is it just me or can anyone else spend way too much time looking at bedding? I could look at options for days and still not be able to decide!

Signs of ADD...

When it comes to decorating my own home, I am feeling some serious signs of ADD. Normally I am a very focused and organized person but with all the inspiration out there (and lack of some serious decorating funds) I am having a difficult time making decisions. As I go back and forth deciding on a look for my bedroom, my recent find has me loving this room, seen here by Madeline Stuart. Based on this and my prior love of a bedroom, it looks like a touch of gold will need to make its way somewhere in our master bedroom.

I am also DYING over that bedside table.

Spring wishlist...

After putting away the wool pants and sweaters last weekend I took out all of my spring items even though I cannot quite wear them yet. I'll wait for the rain to go away before pulling out the white pants (and maybe wait until Memorial Day, since I still tend to go by those rules, sadly.). In the meantime, I'm lusting after some of these items, a few which have already been purchased.

1. I am lusting after these wedges. Now I just have to justify the price.

2. Someone at Sephora recommended this for a pink spring color. Now I want the other colors!

3. Just love this preppy bracelet with a tough edge.

4. Who doesn't love a bright scarf for spring?

5. I will own this bag...perfect for summer!

6. Now that it's sunglass season, the cat eye is all the rage and these are a less dramatic take on the trend.

I have been a busy bee ever since the weather began to get nice. Not sure why but just knowing spring is here makes me more productive. Now if only I can transfer that to motivation to the winter months. Lately we've seen lots of sun and days that reach over 60 degrees. Here are some of the things I've been getting myself into...

I baked some of these....

And left out the chocolate chips but added peanuts instead. YUM!

Then I bought some of these...

Brussel sprouts are SO good. I have no idea why they are so scary for kids! Add olive oil, salt and pepper and bake at 400 degrees. After about 30 minutes you've got yourself some of these...

Let me introduce you to my new favorite candle. I am a lemon freak and add it to everything. Water (hot, cold and seltzer) with lemon is what I drink all day long and never gets old. This candle smells like spring. I highly recommend running out and getting one!

Finally, the cherry blossom tree in our back yard is starting to bloom. See that bud? Only a few more weeks until the tree is full of the flowers.

Although the wedding is over, I find that nothing inspires me more than flipping through bride magazines or the websites. Yes, I am that girl that still cannot get enough! The ideas can turn over into everyday life be it colors for decorating or a small dinner party so I find myself continuing to save images in my "wedding" folder.

Nonpareil Magazine was a virtual magazine I loved "flipping" through and after having some time to check out the newest issue, it's clear that it just keeps getting better! The eighth issue combines fashion and parties together flawlessly. When I laid eyes on the event styled after inspiration from Ralph Lauren, I fell in love with Nonpareil a little more. The grey, white and green are perfection for a spring affair and have me smiling knowing the warm weather is right around the corner.

Signs of spring

With daylight saving time happening this weekend, I could not be happier about spring being right around the corner. All of a sudden the cold weather is beginning to lift and so is my grumpiness that is sick of this winter! Since I buy Martha Stewart Living almost monthly, I finally got a subscription. Lucky me because I got to "flip" through the debut magazine that came out for the iPad on my computer. Marthat Stewart, you have done it again, and you may actually get me to buy an iPad for this (although I will never let go of my hard copies).

Enough rambling though. One of my favorite articles was on Martha's garden and the peonies. These flower arrangements are gorgeous!

I am pretty sure my favorite will change depending on the day. Right now....#1 wins. Spring, please come quickly! I am so excited, I have had the National Cherry Blossom Festival marked on my calendar for weeks now. Cannot.Wait.

Reader advice...

I have been on the hunt for a new desk for weeks now. Who knew this would be so difficult (for me)? My ideal desk is more a table since I am looking for workspace that's larger than your normal desk. Drawers for storage aren't high on my priority list either since I am building up the closet with shelving. Ideally, I would like something with simple lines and neutral. While I was browsing I came across this table at Williams Sonoma Home that is a lot like what I want.

Love the metal. Love the wood. Love the clean lines. Now, any idea where I can find a desk that's similar to this? I would love your help!!

Fun storage solutions

As I work on one project I am always thinking about what's next. Not always the best idea when finishing the first project is always the main goal. Well, the office is coming together nicely and I hope to be done soon and show you all the transformation. In the meantime, I was flipping through the most recent O Magazine and was pleasantly surprised to see some very cool storage solutions. This led me to start thinking about my own closet which needs a lot of work. Here, some great ideas for storage solutions in the bedroom!

This merchandiser for Gilt Groupe has a LOT of shoes and not so much space. Solution? A gorgeous cabinet to rotate your favorite shoes. This solution stopped me in my tracks and if I had enough space I would be out scouting a cabinet just like this. Amazing!

This painter loves scarves so why not display them? I actually have a ton on hooks behind my door but I love the looks of this. She adds that you should never hesitate to shop a hardware store. Why not display what you love to wear??

Owner of Journelle, a lingerie boutique in NYC, Claire Chambers displays her lingerie as if it's a store. This is a bit risky for me but does add a special something to the room.

Calico...I love you

I stopped into the Calico Corners this weekend and was pleasantly surprised! It has been way too many years since I stepped foot in here and I am ready to reupholster everything in my house. Thom Filicia has a great line and IMAN has some stunning prints. Wish I had known about these sooner!

Iman's line was by far my favorite. The textures were amazing and these images really do no justice.

Office Space

As we continue to organize and try to make some decorating decisions, I am beginning to realize the difficulty in, well, making decisions. On a day to day basis I am normally one to make a decision quickly and move on. What to make for dinner? No problem. Decisions at work? Piece of cake. Unfortunately, these easy decisions are not coming as quickly in the home, which is why I haven't posted many pictures as of yet. Truth be told, the house looks almost identical to when we moved almost three months ago.

Either way, we are tackling a project this weekend. We will be painting the office. As exciting as this is, it is not even going to be a fun color. After too much consideration, I chose white. In my mind, I can then select anything else I want for the room. I still cannot find a desk (right now we have an old table in there) that I love or shelving but we are painting and what better way to begin, right? Many of these images have been floating around the web but I continue to search for some inspiration and keep going back to these for either the layout, or the color scheme!

A Valentine Soiree

It really is too bad that Valentine's Day falls on a Monday this year. I am not normally a big fan of the day but I do love the abundance of pink and red that surrounds me on this day! Had I found this party a little sooner, I would have thrown a little soiree with some other friends using this as inspiration. Next year will have to work instead!

Sweet inspiration

Now, I know that my wedding is over but I would be lying if I said I haven't looked at a wedding website since the big day. It turns out that there is just too much inspiration that can translate into everyday life from these websites!

Case in point...this AMAZING cake from Sweet and Saucy. I want to stare at it, I want to print it out and hang it on a wall so I can plan a dessert table around this crazy, spectacular cake. Better yet, I want to enroll in a cake decorating class STAT.

Now I am hoping that one of my sisters or friends gets engaged in the near future so that I can purchase this beautiful cake. :)

Kicking out the cold...

I have become semi-obsessed with finding things for our new bedroom. Of course dinnertime is spent on the couch while I continue the hunt for the perfect table but why not work on one room that no one sees, right? Well, I see it and I think that the bedroom should be a relaxing retreat after a long day! We recently primed the periwinkle (no, that is no joke) walls and before I pick another color, I am enjoying living with the white walls now. It could just be this cold winter but I am ready for spring.

While I continue my search for items to fill the bedroom, I came across this room that to me, defines the warm weather ahead. I am not bold enough to use yellow our room but I did order up this bright white bedcover. It's bright and lightweight; perfect for the warmer weather while the cold lingers a bit longer.

A "glamtradistic" bedroom!

As you can imagine, I have about 1000 photos stored in my "home inspiration" file saved on my computer in addition to the magazine spreads I have lying around in every single room. Turns out my style goes from rustic to traditional to all-out glam. So, do you think glamtradistic is a "style"?

I am lining up some posts around my inspiration for the rooms in our home but just stumbled upon this lovely bedroom on lux & lilies here. Currently I have loads of blues up on our bedroom walls because I was going to take the plunge but now that may not be the case anymore....

I would say this qualifies as "glamtradistic" wouldn't you?? (I may trademark this style!)

Some of my favorites:

1. HELLO shag rug...I want to wake up every morning and step on you!

2. This bed is amazing. Can we note the touches of gold? perfection!

3. I love the long drapes and then the touch of fabric that matches on the window next to the bed. Did you catch that?

4. Every room needs a little bit of nature. That tree makes a huge impact here and it is awesome!

Loving the home of EmersonMade

I figured it out finally! If anyone else is having this ridiculous problem with Blogger right now, you cannot add images to the Compose screen. Instead, use the Edit HTML tab and upload the images there. Google, you really had me peeved the past few days!

Anyway, has anyone seen the new issue of The Nest Magazine? I know we have seen glimpses into the home of entrepreneur Emerson of EmersonMade but this spread is amazing! I am loving their living room and am currently on the hunt for a great sofa like theirs. Such a chic home for a fabulously chic couple....

While we are on the topic of EmersonMade...I am ready to purchase this skirt. Spring, can you hear me? I'm over winter now and ready for some sun.

Lately the inspiration files have come out as I try and decide how to decorate our new home. I go back and forth between painting everything white or going neutral with shots of color. This look has me wanting to go back to white! I will be sure to include my inspiration as I go through the proces and welcome your thoughts!

Our Rehersal Dinner

I was finally able to upload all of my pictures so the final wedding post is here! Our venue, Lord Thompson Manor actually throws a wedding weekend. Since there is not much around this part of Connecticut, everyone comes to stay at the manor on Friday and leaves on Sunday. It doesn't get much more convenient than that! The really fun thing about the rehersal dinners here is that they are themed. Our theme was Tuscan Nights so it was all Italian all the way. It was a spectacular start to the weekend with close family and friends.

To go along with our theme, my mom and I made these simple invites with embossed grapes on rustic-looking cards from Paper Source. We embossed the envelopes too!

My favorite part of the night? The LONG table that everyone was able to sit around.

The details

My mother-in-law actually monogrammed the ribbon on the favor boxes that served as the seating cards! Seriously, I could not get over the fact that she did this.

My sister and I made wine for all the couples as a favor. We added the labels and a name tag for everyone to go along with our Italian theme for the night!

Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday's were the best, weren't they? Unfortunately, my Sundays are a bit more relaxing now but after a very long weekend that consisted of peeling ~~awesome~~ antiquated wallpaper border from our bedroom walls. My sister sent me this video recently and I have maybe watched it 15 times. Not only do I LOVE the Sound of Music soundtrack but who doesn't love a flash mob??

Our Wedding Day {Part 2}

Hi everyone! I am still here, alive and well. The holidays brought lots of travel and the challenge (I mentioned here) requested limited media so I took an internet break which was nice. Honestly, I love doing this challenge every year but the first week is BRUTAL with no sugar or caffeine which caused daily headaches. I'm happy to say that I feel great now but it was a battle for a few days!

I finally have my camera cords and whatnot so I can share some more pictures with you! Here you can find some of the details from our wedding day. I still cannot get over how quickly it all went by and actually get choked up thinking about it today. Enough is enough though, right? Thanks for all your lovely comments on Part 1 here. You all know how to make a girl feel special!

The most nervous I have ever been in my LIFE! Waiting to go into the church. Just thinking about walking down the aisle in front of all those people made me want to cry! Luckily, Mary, one of our fabulous photographers, did a great job at easing my stress!

Luckily, I was immediately calmed as I saw Rob. The ceremony was perfect and we were finally MARRIED!

Onto the reception...all of the paper goods we created ourselves with the help of a family friend. The menus had a silver fork, spoon and knife embossed on the top. LOVED!

The wreath I almost died over. This was NOT my doing but Jackie, the woman who runs the show...made this! Don't worry, I got a tutorial and hope to create my own soon!

I could look at my cake for days. I loved everything about it, including the taste!! Which reminds me, we need to break out the top to eat soon.

Late night got hectic as we brought out hats, glasses, wigs and slipper socks for all the guests. Seriously the most fun EVER!

What a year!!!

I must say that 2010 was quite a year for me! Between planning a wedding and getting married, I also moved to a new state and we bought our first home. There were times when all of this brought me to tears and other times when I had to pinch myself for all of the excitement going on in my life! I am so thankful to have such a wonderful support system from my family and friends and also want to thank all of you, my loyal readers, for encouraging me when times were tough.

Over the years Rob has rubbed off on me a bit as he never believes in New Years Resolutions. I used to be all for them but as he said long ago, "Why wait when you can start right now?" I always liked the idea of getting to "wait" before the resolutions kicked in but now I have taken on the mentality that you can start whenever you want! I will always begin the year with this little challenge as it's a great way to get back on track after all those holiday dinners.

I do get a little excited about the January issue of Whole Living Magazine. For the past two years, I have taken part in their 28 Day Action Plan to detox and get back on track after the holidays. It's a wonderful way to get back to eating healthy meals, reduce stress and exercise more. I will admit, the first week is by far the most difficult but once through, the rest of the challenge is a breeze! I urge you all to go pick up a copy or follow online if you're looking to detox a bit for 2011 and know you will not be disappointed! I will try to post an update here every week and I would love to hear from anyone else that is partaking in the plan!

Tonight some friends are coming to visit and we will be ringing in the new year decked out watching an 80's cover band. Seriously, I bought about 10 "outfits" and hopefully I'll post my pick here tomorrow!

Our Wedding Day (Part 1)

Alright, I know you've all been waiting for these shots, or so I've been told! I am still waiting for my camera cord and was hoping to do a sequence of events here from rehersal dinner to honeymoon but why not just get right to it instead?

I can honestly say that our wedding day was the most incredible day of my life, so far. Knocking on wood is something I should do except the day is already over. Nothing went wrong at all (that I knew about at least) and could not have been happier! Now I continue to think back and wonder how something can go by so quickly but at the same time I think it's helped me live in the moment a bit more.

We got married in a church but the wedding weekend went down at Lord Thompson Manor. Truly one of the most amazing sites (that I could fine!) in Connecticut. The staff is impeccable as is everything they put their hands on and you literally have an entire wedding weekend here from the rehersal dinner on Friday to the final brunch on Sunday. In my opinion, it doesn't get better than that when you're in the "quiet corner of Connecticut" with not much else to do.

I seriously LOVED my shoes. Not a day goes by where I'd regret that purchase!

My grandmothers cameo went on my bouquet. I absolutely love that pin! Funny story on my perfume. I went to buy something I have never worn before. The day I got to Nordstrom they told me that they had an engraver there so I had him put the date on the bottle!

Our first look! I was against this and wanted the church aisle to be our first look, but all of our pictures would have been in the dark so I went against it. Seeing Rob prior to the church actually calmed me down!

Our photographers were absolutely wonderful. Husband and wife team, Justin and Mary Marantz are amazing. I would recommend them for anyone in the CT area that's looking for a wedding photographer!

Pastry chef + artist = amazing confections

Recently I came across the amazing confections known as Cake Opera Co. out of Toronto and now I'm ready to hop a plane to see the real thing. The treats here are out of this world, put together by both a pastry chef and an artist, they are almost too gorgeous to eat!

I'm a big red fan during the Christmas season but this color palette is undeniably festive. This year I will admit, the decorating is almost non-existent in our new home but these are going into my inspiration file for next year!

Some updates and a recipe!

Lately I have been trying to reorganize the new home while working. My spare time has me running to the DMV, Social Security office and Lowe's. Who knew getting married and changing your name was so time consuming? Seriously no fun at all. Our new home is coming together but we have a LONG way to go. On top of that I think every single time I go out and drive I get lost but I now have the route to the grocery store and the nearby mall down to a science! Other than that, I am loving married life and could not be happier!

As you can tell I have taken a bit of a hiatus here. This brings about some good and some bad news. Let's start with the bad news, shall we?

I have no great photos to post yet of the honeymoon or the wedding. Why? Well, my computer AND my camera cords are at my parents house. I am ~~impatiently~~ patiently awaiting their arrival with an upcoming visit so you will be bombarded with photos at that time. In the meantime, I appreciate all of your patience too.

Now for the good news. I have been getting into my new kitchen gadgets and am finally able to cook and bake again! This past weekend I surprised the hubby with one of his favorite dinners and although I haven't tried it (I am a vegetarian so cooking anything with meat shows my true love here) I have gotten some praise. That dinner was Mini Chicken Pot Pies (because they are way cuter than one pie of course)!

Mini Chicken Pot Pies

Ingredients:

1 sheet frozen puff pastry dough, thawed

2 teaspoons unsalted butter

2 teaspoons olive oil

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups 2% reduced-fat milk

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 cups shredded chicken (I just boiled 2 chicken breasts so I could shred easily)

2 cups root vegetables (I used a frozen bag of carrots, corn and green bean mixture)

1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh basil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

4 sage leaves

1 large egg white, beaten

1) Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out puff pastry to 1/4 inch thick and cut into 4 rounds to fit over ovenproof bowls. Keep pastry covered and chilled.

2) Heat butter and oil in a medium saucepan over moderate heat; add flour, and cook, whisking constantly for 1 minute. Add the milk in a slow stream while whisking constantly; bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened. Stir in next 6 ingredients (through pepper). Spoon mixture into ovenproof bowls. Top bowls with pastry, pressing against the outside edge to seal. Place sage leaf on top of pastry, and brush with egg white.

3) Back pot pies on a baking sheet for 17 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.

This recipe was easy and mine look almost exactly like the picture. I ripped this out of a magazine a long time ago and I'm not sure where it's from but I want to say Self Magazine.

Thanksgiving was low-key this year, spent with cousins nearby. It was just what we needed after a busy week back at work and I am so thankful to have been invited. Now the upcoming holidays are approaching quickly and I have to say that it's just what I need to stay cheerful after the wedding and honeymoon.

This year my Christmas list is very short but one thing I have been meaning to add to the list is, well, a few copies of Lonny in print. I am not one to personally run out to the stores on Black Friday and this year I'm more interested in getting our new home together. Good news for me since Lonny is 50% off today only! Hurry and pick up your favorite copies too!

Oh, and the same goes for Sweet Paul Magazine for all you foodies out there.

It seems like we got married months ago! The wedding was unforgettable and by far the best day of my life so far. Our honeymoon was amazing and I honestly cannot believe it's over. So much so that I could cry in an instant just thinking about it right now. Of course I'll have loads of pictures to show you all shortly but in the meantime, I'll leave you with one of the bride and groom and our first dance.

Hi! I'm Laura from JourneyChic, and I love all things weddings and decor, so Perfectly Put Together is totally my bag, baby. I'm happy to be here today while Emily is off getting hitched!

In the past, my husband's cousins have chosen unique locations for their nuptials - in 2009 we ventured to castles near the Scottish Highlands and the French countryside. This time, it's Costa Rica! Although I don't know what my cousin-in-law's fiancee has planned for the big day, it's fun to think about the possibilities - all of which are very different from my New England country club wedding.

1. Much the way you might decorate a room based on beautiful fabric, I mocked up this seaside wedding scheme using pretty paper from Paper Source as my inspiration. Although this decorative paper is actually a Japanese design (not exactly Costa Rican!), I loved the variety of blues. Wrap the paper around favor boxes, use it as a background for menu cards, table numbers, and place cards.

2. I'm not a fan of invitations that are super theme-y, but this set from Wedding Paper Divas is elegant while still setting the stage for a beach-side ceremony. Zoom in and see that the coral looks almost like a watercolor painting, with hints of both orange and red.

3. A gorgeous, rich shade of ocean blue in silk chiffon from J. Crew is lovely for the bridesmaids. The ladies will appreciate the flattering and comfortable silhouette.

4. A bold bouquet of orange roses and blue delphiniums ties in the invitation. Image from The Knot.

5. Rice paper votive holders in blue, orange, and red clustered at the reception bring the coral to the table. I would group them in threes of the same color and alternate the colors per table.

6. Faux coral is a more eco-friendly option for decorating the reception and ceremony with the ocean's natural sculptures. Spray paint them red or orange to make the tables pop even more, or keep them their "natural" shade.

Let's not forget the gown! I love this flowing, elegant gown from Wtoo (style name is "Sylvia"). The floral embroidery is pretty but subtle, and some of the tiny flowers look like stars (or starfish!). Not to mention that the one-shoulder strap is sexy! I think any woman would feel like a goddess in this gown at her seaside wedding.

No, I did not have a baby! Life is way too busy right now for that. My co-workers are super awesome though and gifted me with this as a wedding gift which was in fact born on August 4, 2010.

Yes, it is my very own Eames rocking chair by Herman Miller! I practically burst into tears when they surprised me with this. Although I am SO sad to leave and continue work in the D.C. area after the honeymoon I could not be more thankful for all the support I've had during this time in my life. No boredom for me after the wedding because now I'll have a home to concentrate on as well as the perfect spot for my new chair!!

The past three months have been a whirlwind, to say the least. Not only has there been lots of wedding planning, but we decided to throw a few more things in the mix.

First up, my fiance Rob got a new job.....

And that job happens to be in Washington D.C. which means we have a move on the horizon....

And if this were not enough, we are buying our FIRST HOME!!!

*This is not our house but it is a home I've saved since I first layed eyes on it. I cannot wait to walk through our own door, but that gate and front door is so welcoming, isn't it?

If I could have a baby in the next month and retire I will officially complete every major life event in a three month span! I have been a big emotional mess the past few months since Rob is already in D.C. with work. There have been many tears and many checklists but things are FINALLY coming together. This wedding is finally on the horizon and I cannot wait to be married and feel settled in our new home. Get ready because soon there will be new house projects and MUCH more time for me to blog.

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {eye candy}

Less than three weeks to go and I'll be walking down that aisle. The nerves are setting in and the sleepless nights are beginning as I wake up with 12 things running through my mind. Needless to say, there is a lot to accomplish in that short time!

On the other hand, I am so excited! Now that all the details are coming together for our wedding, it makes everything more REAL. Lately I have not had much time to catch up on magazines but when I have a few minutes to peruse wedding websites I find myself paying attention to all the details. When I found this photo shoot recently on 100 Layer Cake I could not help but love all the little details on the table!

Perfect for a fall day with a rustic setting. The light here is to die for!

The bride even fits into the fairtale setting! I love the chargers and everything about this table and it is simple enough to replicate at home in my opinion.

Tomorrow is a big day for me as well. My life has been a bit crazy so be sure to check back soon for a big announcement!

Tis the season for pumpkin!

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year and not just because of the weather. I LOVE fall recipes. It all starts with apples. Every year my family and I usually go apple picking in Connecticut where I grew up. After apple season sets in, then come the pumpkins. My parents actually had family photos taken of us diving into and cleaning out pumpkins when I was young. We may not do that anymore, but I love almost any recipe that includes pumpkin.

Lately there seem to be so many delicious recipes out there using pumpkin I have a hard time even looking at the pictures without wanting to run to the grocery store to buy all ingredients. Here are a few recipes I've saved lately that I think you will enjoy as well.

First off...DONUTS! I have a small place in my heart for donuts in general. These, I need to find time to make! I am drooling over these images. Recipe and more to be found on Cannelle et Vanille here.

Since donuts make a great appetizer, let's check out the salad entry next. I can spend WAY too much time on the 101 Cookbooks site. Heidi is coming out with a new book soon and it's at the top of my wish list. This salad also looks easy and DELISH!

Up next, brownies. Hello delicious looking brownies that probably taste amazing but are so not healthy! I am okay with that though, since they just look THAT good. Smitten Kitchen is one of my favorite food blogs. I am always amazed at what she makes in her small NYC kitchen. Recipe here.

Lastly, I have these Pumpkin Pie Bites that Bakerella made on my list. I'm usually one to snack on many things rather than have an entire piece of pie so these are right up my alley!

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {rehersal dinner love}

Now that the nuptials are coming up all the little details are coming together. As if planning the wedding day was not enough, wedding weekends take place now so I have to think about the rehersal dinner (which I'm helping my future in-laws with since I am Type A) and the day after the wedding too. I love the idea of a rehersal dinner that is casual and simple with some perfect touches and have been looking around for inspiration. Of course Style Me Pretty featured this amazing rehersal dinner by Millie Holloman Photography that I am dying over! It would make a perfect wedding as well.

Most of these ideas are easy enough to accomplish at home as well! How about those mason jars as vases? LOVE! I am also open to any suggestions that you may have. All of your help this year has been fabulous!

Jennifer Worts has bistro style down

Not only does the October issue of Canadian House and Home showcase fabulous ideas for decorating this fall but there were some magnificent kitchens! I am convicned that my style strays from mod to classic to glam with the flip of a page. One of the kitchens designed by Jennifer Worts stopped me dead in my tracks. The white kitchen with the dark accents and touch of shine is rightly titled Bistro Glam. As a fan of all bistro style kitchens as well as a bit of sparkle, Jennifer married both looks perfectly.

I am a horrible blogger and I will admit it. Life has thrown me some curve balls lately and things are hectic. Excuses aside, things should get better soon! I have not had much time to catch up on magazines, let alone TV. I did, however, find a calmness in these images of Ralph Lauren's home in New York. featured in Elle Decor. The white and minimal style is perfect to clear the mind and get the creative juices flowing in my opinion.

Just the bookshelf alone is inspiring! I cannot take my eyes off it and am ready to plop on that white chair so I can concentrate on every nook!

Let's discuss this lovely dining space, shall we? First off, the lighting and those vases that mimic the shiny texture. On top of that, did you see the texture around that fabulous mirror? Perfection indeed. Way to go Ralph! Your style, stores and now home never cease to amaze me. Now I'm back off to work but thank you for the mini retreat!

This wedding at Sunstone Winery is PERFECT for fall. The bride was actually the sister to the photographer (Jasmine Star Photography) so you know a lot of love went into these photos. The succulents paired with the deep reds and white in the bouquets and in the centerpieces make for a cozy setting. Add on a perfect dessert bar with good food and family and you've got yourself a party. You can feel the love here!

Isn't this couple adorable? And yes, those are Louboutins, in case you were wondering! The details just go on throughout the entire day too...

These textures and colors SCREAM fall to me. I may have to put together an outfit and a room to go along with this theme.

A studio {with a High/Low pricepoint}

The new Style at Home site and blog has been updated, as per a little email in my inbox and I finally had a few minutes to browse all the goodies this weekend. I can never seem to find this magazine in stores around here, but the site is FULL of inspiration. One of my favorite articles is when a room is done for a high price point and then replicated in a low(er) cost. It is so surprising to see how you really CAN get the same look as something that costs lots of money. How motivating, huh?

Recently, the magazine put together a studio and you will be shocked to see how similar these rooms are. I am loving the casualness of the room and would run out and purchase the desk tomorrow...if only the low price point was lower than the $1100 price tag. Now I'm thinking we need a High/Low/LOWEST article!

Last night I briefly saw Lady Gaga's sewed together meat ensemble for the MTV Awards (queue: gag reflex for this vegetarian) and wondered what it really feels like to wear a slab of beef as a "hat". That show was turned off in about 5 minutes. I have not had much time lately to catch up on TV or fall magazines. They are piling and boy am I going to have some fun ready to do on the honeymoon (that is if Rob will let me go over the weight limit in our suitcases!). As I pondered all the media I have missed lately, I remembered the red carpet for the Cannes Film Festival. Let's face it, this is as good as fashion week. Everyone always looks gorgeous but Michelle Williams won the gold in my book this year.

This dress is a perfect mix of elegance and class, done by Mr. Jason Wu. Michelle was stunning! I may even go so far as to say this would make a fabulous wedding dress.

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {my bridal shower}

Last weekend my sisters and mother suprised me with my fabulous bridal shower in Connecticut (with ample days warning since I am not one for surprises). The day was perfect with amazing weather and my wonderful family and friends. My sisters and mother did such an amazing job with the details, I could not get over it. Before the party started my sister Julie was able to take some shots while my other sister Jill worked on the design. I cannot thank my sisters (or my mother) enough for pulling this day off without a hitch!

The day called for pink of course and pink there was!

It has been over a week and I still cannot get over the menus my sister designed on linen paper!

Jill took all the cans and covered in this silver paper, the same she used to line the envelopes for the invitations. She knows I'm a girl that loves some sparkle!

This year is going by so fast. Seriously, life does go by faster as we get older and I am not sure I'm ready for it yet. Such a wonderful day and now less than two months to the big day!

Honestly, I cannot believe it is September. Seriously, where did the summer go? I have not even been to the beach this year (although I'm still dreaming about my honeymoon on the beach in November)! With only two months (and 4 days) to go, the planning is on it's way and this week means getting out invitations. So, I apologize for my absence here but just picture me cutting envelope liners, printing directions and getting all the other details together. Phew, I'm tired!

With all the blogs I have yet to catch up on there are a few things on my radar right now. Specifically these shoes....

I do not normally shop at Club Monaco and I have no idea what these flats cost, but I'm in love. This is a NEED situation rather than a want, I am sure of that. Has anyone tried them at all? I need the details before I run to the closest shop to put them on my feet.

Assuming this post is really about "this" and "that" I want to share a breakfast nook that is so welcoming, I am ready to move in. Designed by Allisberg Parker Architects, LLC, the firm was deemed winner of Innovation in Design Awards by Connecticut Cottages and Gardens in the kitchen category. Is it not perfect for a breezy fall Saturday morning? The light....simply fabulous!

Finally, has anyone else seen the pictures of the newly decorated Oval Office? I will throw it out there and admit that I am not a fan. The look is simple with neutral tones but in my opinion, it could have used something more. Even additional pops of blue or green would have jazzed up the space. We should all take another look at the suggestions made by InStyle Magazine that came out when Obama took office. You can find that story here.

This was a post filled with inconsistencies but I hope to be back soon with pictures from my bridal shower that took place this past weekend. It was amazing!

What wood you choose?

Alright - I realized this may be the lamest title to any post here, but I am not changing anything. Lately, I've been thinking about wood floors. I know, sounds strange, right? It seems leverytime I flip through a shelter mag, I focus on the floors. Oftentimes, I find myself swearing I'll only live in a (future) home with gorgeous, dark wood floors. Well, times are changing, and so is my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I still love the looks of perfect dark floors but now appreciate everything in between. Here are some of my favorites:

This image of Chloe Sevigny's entryway has made it's way around the world of blogs and back but I still love those floors (perhaps more than the wallpaper).

Okay, I'm sold. I could possibly sleep on this floor!

Perfect, along with that light, which I'm also happy to discuss because I am in LOVE!

Why stop on the floors when you can add to the doorway?

So what is your favorite? In terms of cleaning, I am guessing the dark is MUCH harder to maintain but it could be worth the work.

I have been absent from blogland lately and I do apologize. With two months to go, and a busy work schedule I often wonder where the days go. Wow, I think that sentence is something my grandmother would say, yet I do feel that way right now. I'm getting old!

As all the details of my big day come together, I am having trouble concealing my excitement! Of course I inspiration is found every where I turn. Recently, I found Sugar Love Weddings, a photographer based out of Australia. The work is gorgeous but so is this wedding! The gorgeous couple looks incredibly happy.

I LOVE this image of her putting on perfume. I may have to steal that shot!

Two words: amazing shot!

My new dilemma...the veil! I went back and forth between fingertip length and cathedral. The look of cathedral never gets old but I ended up going with fingertip length since I figured I can wear it all night. Every day I wake up now wanting the cathedral length. Anyone have any good advice for me? Did you keep your veil on all night, or take it off after the ceremony?

Chris Barrett {future BFF}

When I laid eyes on the Chris Barrett Design website I knew I had to block off some time to sit and soak up the goods. Every single second was worth it too! If I did not have a wedding to plan, or show up to in a few months I'm pretty sure I would pack my bags (Eat.Pray.Love Style), move to California, and follow Chris around if possible. There, I would ask questions to learn everything there is to know about how she accomplishes things like this amazing bathroom with the Moroccan light, rug and window treatments...

Chris, you are REALLy good at putting just enough in a room to make it cozy without being cluttered.

After some time spent discussing each and every one of these rooms, we can move outside to relax in this utterly fantastic backyard I wish I could call my own...

Finally we can go dine here where I will want every single item on those shelves and most likely all the recipes of the food we will eat.

How exhausting was that? Since I am no longer daydreaming, I will go back to thoughts of wedding details. It's best to know I may be moving to California in the very near future!

This week I have been all over the place while talking about simplicity, lots of colors, summer and now, fall. August tends to be that month for me. It's a time for change, when the mornings are a tad bit cooler and everyone at work takes vacation before September rolls around. All the stores begin rolling out the fall clothes which lead me to thinking my fall wardrobe, all while it's still 80 degrees outside. The time of year with fall, Thanksgiving and yes, even Christmas is on my mind. With so much to look forward to, the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection from CLaer has me ready to dress in the upcoming seasons at full force!

Orange/tangerine/clementine/coral is the new hot color family. It's true, I read it in Vogue. Apparently this color is not dying as fall comes around. This year, it's here to stay. I know yesterday was a simple, low key taste day for me with the wedding I posted, but I too, like a pop of color. So, as you get ready to take out the denim and camel once the weather turns, be sure to add a pop of this current hit! Here are some of the ways I would add the color in my life...

We cannot ignore the big online launch of the August/September issue of Lonny Magazine either since this confirms the whole "orange is here to stay" theme. Although a little bold for my taste, this room works with the bright white and additional textures in the carpet, ottoman and furniture. Once again, the team has me in love and I'm off to devour all the pages and links I missed.

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {simplicity wins}

Lately I have been trying to pare things down and suddenly, I want to clear the clutter out of all aspects of my life. I threw out old makeup I never wore, gave a couple bags of clothing to Goodwill and finally went through all things wedding and got rid of everything I do not need. It really feels GOOD too. What makes it such a great exercise (I try to do this at least once or twice a year) is to see how far I have come. I tossed lipsticks that I never imagined I would wear and ripped things out of wedding magazines that are SO not me. In the end, I have a clearer picture of the things I do love.

With weddings, there are so many sources and places for inspiration, it gets overwhelming at times (or all the time). One day I am all about the color and the next I want just what's necessary, and simple. After a weekend long pre-marriage program, I flashed back to all the things this wedding is really about (not that I forgot, but the details make it easy to lose focus)

When I saw this wedding photograhed by Aaron Delesie the simple details struck me as so calming. This lets you instantly focus on the love between the couple. Isn't that what's it is all about?

Could she look any happier?

Did you all receive the sneak peek of the new August/Sept. issue of Lonny Magazine? When I see the email in my inbox it's like Christmas morning...or better yet...my birthday! First off, one of the headlines reads Organize Your Wardrobe. I cannot wait to "flip" to that article! Callie Jenschke of Scout Designs graces the cover and after checking out her site, I know this is going to be a good issue.

I am crazy excited about not only the company logo, but did you take a look at those lamps! One pair may need to come live with me someday.

This, pared with the news of Margaret Russell becoming the new Editor-in-Chief of Architectural Digest (and the fact that tomorrow is Friday) puts one big smile on my face!

I love a good party. It's one reason I do love planning my own wedding (most of the time). There is nothing better than when everything comes together in a cohesive way, just as planned. Of course this is no small feat. When I saw this party for ONE YEAR OLD twins that was put together, I could not even believe my eyes. Translating a party like this for a baby shower or birthday party for your best friend would be so easy. I am making sure to save these for inspiration when the time comes!

After a whirlwind weekend, running around taking care of more things for the wedding, I'm finally getting REALLY excited! Things are coming together nicely and the overall feel of my wedding is turning out just as I planned. I especially loved seeing Chelsea Clinton's wedding pictures and she made a beautiful bride in her Vera Wang dress. Can't go wrong with Vera!!

We haven't had our engagement pictures taken yet but after seeing these taken by Kristin Vining, I am loving this laid back couples playful style.

And many thanks to all of my wonderful readers! I started this blog as a creative outlet and although I don't have as much time as I'd like to devote, I appreciate everyones comments and emails! So thank you, thank you THANK YOU!

Collaboration {Thom Filicia + Kravet}

To say I am just a fan of Thom Filicia's work would be an understatement. I am a HUGE fan. From the first day we met Thom on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, I knew he had talent. As of late, Thom has been all over the place, which just goes to show everyone else sees that talent too! And let's not forget he's quite good-looking as well.

While I was browsing the new House Beautiful last night I noticed the ad on the back cover. The new line Thom has created for Kravet is perfection, to say the least. The colors, are swoonworthy and can work in so many rooms of a home. Don't you agree?

Think this can just be wrapped up so I can take it home? I think it would be perfect for a sunroom!

Tonight I was browsing through some old Domino Magazines. Is everyone else with me thinking they never get old? I could re-read every article and never get bored. I came across the home of Robin Luce designed by Katie Ridder and forgot the awesomness that exists in this one image. Seriously, I think this sums up my style. The drapes are magnificent, I cannot get enough of those pillows and the wall color....perfection. I really need to get a scanner up and running since these pages in the magazines are doing me no justice since I rarely flip through them! I know Brides.com has the archives but I would like if every single page could be released. Please stop teasing us!!

Dreaming of a pantry...

When life is hectic, my type-A personality usually turns on an the compulsive organizer comes out. This includes lists of things to get done (which i have running all over the place right now) and then some. At work, I go and orgaznize my desk and mail folders. When I'm home, it's folding all my clothes and organizing drawers as if they were a display at your local retail store (I know, it's horrible and comes from years of experience working at those stores!). Afterwards, I usually hit up the kitchen to clean out the fridge, or worse yet...the cabinets. I'm not sure why but I loathe this task. Some organizing comes so easy to me but other times, I never know what's best. Baking items separate from spices? Canned goods with all the pasta and cereal? Of course these are not things to stress over, but I always go back to function over form. Cereal near the fridge...check. Spices near the stove...check.

All this talk just leaves me to daydreaming about a gorgeous pantry in my (fingers crossed) future kitchen. Imagine having everyhting out of the way from guests, but a spot to look and see EVERYTHING organized? Well I do and if you do as well, you can appreciate these...

Discovering Whitney Pozgay

To say that I have extra time right now is an understatment. With the wedding plans and work comes sleepless nights thinking about everything I have to check off my to-do list. The good news is that I've gotten LOTS done. I want to thank everyone for all the music recommendations again. Not a day goes by when I'm not amazed by wonderful blog readers and this little "world". It is just that good!

I'm currently on a "wedding break" right now after too many days of thinking about all the details. Instead, I'm catching up on my blogs that I have missed out on lately. One new find is the discovery of Whitney Pozgay's new fashion line, WHIT. Niece to the fabulous Kate Spade herself, I am certain good things are on the way.

Thanks for everyone's kind words yesterday. It makes me feel much better to know I'm not the only one suffering bride-to-be meltdowns! I also loved all of your advice on the music and will be sure to share my pick when the time comes!

Today I've been dreaming of fall clothes. I think it's the Nordstrom catalog that got me, but when I saw that Garance Dore photographed the Fall 2010 Lookbook for Club Monaco, I almost lost it. Her blog is one of my favorites when it comes to fashion and her photos for the store are just as inspiring. The collaboration could not be any cooler and Garance was even able to bring her own models. Enter, perfectly achieveable and chic looks coming your way to stores soon!

And don't forget about the boys...

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {serenity now}

Today is only Tuesday and I am having what you might call a "rough week". I literally cannot believe there are three more work days left. Fingers crossed they go by FAST. Between this and the wedding planning, I am starting to freak out a bit. Normally I have been a cool, calm and collected bride but with less than 4 months to go (actually closer to 3) I may have had a mini meltdown. Please tell me everyone goes through this stage during the planning!

Leaving some things to the last minute has not been the most wise decision but se la vie, right? This week we have already done the following:

1) Ordered invitations
2) Made appointments with baker and florist
3) Made appointment for pre-wedding hair/makeup
4) Picked out the flower girl dress (yes, I know I'm late on this one)

Seeing the list does make me happy to check off a few more items on the to-do list for sure. My one question for all of you?

Church music. People have suggested trumpeters, an organist, a string quartet. I have something I'm working on but not certain I can pull it off so those details will have to wait until later. If any of you have any suggestions at all, I'd love to hear them!

A match made in heaven

My taste in decor goes from one end of the spectrum to the other in about two seconds flat. Browsing through magazines featuring beach homes makes me crazy for a simple, all white palette to work with while old homes with dark wood and colors seem so...cozy. After staring at the photos of John Dransfield and Geoffrey Ross' Georgian Revival estate, I realized they married both dark and light palettes so perfectly I ripped all the pages out of Elle Decor immediately!

The one room that stood out to me in particular was the kitchen. For months I've been talking about how someday I want a kitchen with black cabinets but then go straight back to nixing that and wanting a white palette (keep in mind, this is my "pretend imagination"). Between the white cabinets, the dark walls and the black antique cabinet, I think I have finally found I can have my cake and eat it too. And can't we all agree that it doesn't get better than that?

Bring on the cold weather

I think I've been talking about the weather a lot. Why? Well, it's been hot and humid here in Boston for too long now. Is it just me or does everyone else rush the seasons along? When it's winter, all I want is the 90 degree heatwaves and now that summer is here I am looking forward to fall. It's difficult to stay in the season when all the new fall lines begin trickling into stores and our magazines. This week I found the Fall 2010 Lookbook for J.Crew. The "Eddie Beale goes to summer camp" look Jenna Lyons is working has me ready for cooler days ahead. These looks need someone fierce to pull them off (which is definitely not me) but the elements are perfection. I'm already thinking about how I can add a few pieces into my own wardrobe.

Since I am having so much fun with the lookbook, I decided to pair some rooms to the outfits. All of the gorgeous clothes fit perfectly with one of my very favorite homes from Elle Decor. Mark Badgley and James Mischka's Kentucky home has been tacked on my inspiration board since I first layed eyes on it. Now there are the perfect outfits to accompany the space!

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {purple and peacocks}

I am constantly browsing blogs and wedding sites for inspiration when it comes to my own day (which is only four months away now!). Style Me Pretty has been a favorite from the beginning and lately, the inspiration has been overflowing. Every few days I actually feel like I found "my wedding" and have changed my own colors about 5 times already. My mother told me today I need to just "make up my mind and decide". I am going with a very basic black and white theme - but it's the color that gets me. With so many looks out there, it is hard to pick just one!

I am not normally a big fan of purple (I'll save that for my sister who loves it), but I was pleasantly surprised when this "Inspiration to Reality" photoshoot came about. The peacock feathers with the purple and teal (and a touch of yellow) is just gorgeous for a summer day. Now if only I could translate this to a cool fall night wedding!

Kitchen Love {Ruard Veltman}

Did anyone else see the Kitchen of the Month featured in the new House Beautiful? Lately, I've been lusting after spaces with clean lines and lots of space. I think it's the heat. It makes me want to clean and only have what I need around. This kitchen, designed by Ruard Veltman fits the bill, and then some. The big table is centered and ready for a crowd; the huge sink ready to wash some fresh vegetables or summer fruit. And that door? I want to know what's behind it. Maybe a dining room or a den to relax?

Nonpareil {the magazine, not the candy}

The fourth issue of Nonpareil Magazine came out recently and I have "flipped" through it about four times already. I have used past issues for help with my own wedding and they inspire me in a big way. Every single page has amazing finds and prints outs to help the DIY bride-to-be; instead of going on and on, here are some of my favorites....

App to Outfit

This weekend I had some time to enjoy the weather, organize some more wedding details and spend time with my family. One stop happened to be the Apple store. Being a fan of the iPhone, I had to check out the newest model and now I am waiting (inpatiently) to upgrade my own (which will be next year). While I browsed the phones on display, I found a new app to love. Locavore let's you enter your zipcode and view the farmer's markets in your area as well as all the vegetables and fruits in season. Woohoo!

Since I was in the store later in the day, I haven't had a chance to get to a market nearby but I assure you, it'll happen soon! Instead, I decided to put together an outfit to wear to a market. With casual shorts and a bit of glitz to this new J.Crew shirt I'm lusting after I'll be ready hit the stands.

This has been an unusually hot week here in Boston. I'm not complaining, considering all winter long I make remarks about how I cannot wait for the hot summer weather. This week has drained my creativity and I will blame that on the heat. Today I am wishing I were somewhere farawy relaxing and soaking up some gorgeous scenery like below. Destination wishlist...Outstanding in the Field

Technically this is not a destination like my typical wishlist, but there is travel involved. Outstanding in the Field involves a cook, good company and local farms. Here's the story.

Having begun in 1999 the creators travel through North America (and Europe soon!) traveling in this bus.

Working with farmers all over North America, they plan their trip and make way to each destination. Once they arrive set up begins as the food is prepared and guests start to arrive.

Hello gorgeous settings. No table decor needed here with these backgrounds. Imagine the conversations going around this table? Even without food I am ready to buy my tickets! It gets better because then the food is served.

If that doesn't whet the appetite, how about this?

Finally, you get to enjoy something like this as the sun goes down...

Want to know the best part? Most dinners take about six hours for five courses and include wine pairings. I do not think a "farm dinner" has ever looked better. Anyone want to start a farm dinner club outside of Boston with me? I swear I am a good cook!

No, it's not my own shower (just yet) but I LOVE looking at the fabulous ideas others come up with for showers. A low key affair with lots of colors, (totally opposite from the wedding), is ideal. Why not have the best of all worlds for an engagement, right?

Today, it felt like 100 degrees in Boston. It's tough to even move in this weather and I am wishing we had central air right about now. Moving is almost too much so the windows are open while we sit and wait for "a breeze". How about you?

Although I usually daydream about gorgeous interiors, tonight I am dreaming about the outdoors. Not just any outdoors but I'm thinking a big patio that leads to a pool. Living near the ocean will always be on the top of my list, but walking outdoors to jump in a pool is quickly coming in second place.

As if this is nott perfection. You have the best of both worlds for those times when you don't feel like getting all sandy on the beach!

I also want to wish a very happy Father's Day to all the dads out there, including my own dad. Thanks for always staying calm, when you really wanted to wonder why I may have made some very silly decisions throughout the years!

A few things {My style defined and a special birthday}

This week From The Right Bank asked bloggers to find one picture that defines our style. Now, this is basically an impossible task for me, but I love a good challenge. My taste in decor goes from modern chic to traditional from one day to the next. If I had to decorate a home tomorrow, I'm pretty sure I'd take all of the images from my "inspiration folder" and realize putting it all together will look ridiculous. Either way, I've had this image saved for some time. It's the home of David DeMattei and Patrick Wade, two men who work for Williams-Sonoma Home and West Elm (Patrick Wade was recently announced CEO of Lucky Brand Jeans). The dark chocolate walls with the crystal chandalier and the cozy couches are a perfect blend (not to mention a hint of animal print). I would be happy to walk home and into this living room any day! So what's your style?

And today I'm celebrating. Actually, Rob and I are celebrating....his birthday! I am so happy to spend yet another year with this man and what an exciting year we have, wedding and all. It's a scorcher here in Boston but we're off to enjoy the weather and a special dinner tonight. I love you Rob!

I need to win the lotto...

Why? Well not because I am planning a wedding or anything, but because I want this bed! I finally had some time tonight to "flip" through the new Lonny magazine and of course, it gets four stars, just like every other issue I've read so far. Now, "become the next Michelle Adams" has been added to my "things to accomplish in life" list.

After loving each and every home in this month's issue, I keep going back to this one image. I am fixated on the details. The bedside lamps, the bench at the end of the bed, and that rug. In my opinion, the one piece in the room that makes it all work is this bed from Mrs. Howard. I would like to order and have it delivered tomorrow, thankyouverymuch. While the price tag is not in my range, I'll keep to my dreams; but tomorrow I may try my luck and pick up a lottery ticket. You never know!

Candice Dowling, owner of Jubilee Events, recently joined forces with Robert and Kathleen Photography for a wedding shoot in Paris. Between the brides tulle gown and the classic red lips, I am ready to book a few flights and make my own wedding a destination in the city of love.

Aren't the details on the tablecloth fabulous? The simple white and green centerpiece is perfection, and do you spy that cake in the corner?

This bride and groom could not be more fierce. Love them, and this wedding shoot. If this is a job, then I think I need a career change. Not only setting up a wedding shoot, but doing it in amazing locations, such as Paris? Where do I apply?

Who doesn't love Nate?

Since I've seen today marked as "Nate Day" from the Moggit Girls on just about every blog, I figured I'd join in the fun. Who doesn't love Nate? The man can take a room, snap his fingers and bring new life to a space no one ever though possible. I tend to stare at the rooms he designs when in magazines over and over again and secretly keep my eyes peeled for him every time I visit my sister in Chicago. Crazy? Just a little.

I rarely watch Oprah unless I see that the cast of Twilight is making an appearance or hear Nate will be on. It seems only fitting to pick a makeover that appeared on the show...and it happens to be in Beantown. Seeing this makeover makes me want to downsize, live in a studio, and try to make it look half as chic as this.

This is for real. It's only 319 square feet. I actually cannot believe anyone can live in something this size, even alone. The reason? Boston winters...since it's tough to go outdoors for at least 2 months. Yet Nate snaps his fingers, and this Before turns into this After....

Love the tall windows with gorgeous treatments, the wine sneakily stored under the table, and the amazing amount of storage that was squeezed in. Nate, you are amazing!

Future Grizzly Woman?

Elle Decor is one of my very favorite shelter magazines and is a constant source of inspiration. After meeting the VERY lovely Margaret Russell with Linds, Carlee and Stephanie recently, I am ready to go purchase dozens of shift dresses and begin doing push-ups daily. Having never seen Margaret in anything other than a shift dress, I now know why. It WORKS. She's perfectly elegant and I only hope I age that well!

While I learned that the August 2002 issue is the best selling copy of the magazine ever, I tend to think the more recent issues go above and beyond. The June issue showcased A-List Designers and five of them are listed as "Designers to Watch". While I am not familiar with Marie Turner, the Mountain Retreat she designed has this city girl ready to pack the bags and run to the hills. I promise to hike and ski and be adventurous, although I'll never be the future "Grizzly Woman".

Are you convinced yet? I love the exterior as much as I love everything inside!

Clearly, Marie Turner is one to watch, especially since she just got me, a girl who usually goes for the glamour and glitz, wanting to move to the mountains.

Black is the new black!

The CFDA Awards just took place and the red carpet is to fashionable celebs like South Africa is to soccer. While checking out the goods to rate my favorites, I noticed a trend....and it's black. Not only black dresses, but those dresses were decked in sequins. I am officially declaring shiny black the new IT color. Gwyneth Paltrow was by FAR my favorite of the night. The simple hair and make-up put all the emphasis on her amazing dress. Black is one color that stands out in my own wardrobe; and knowing that it is out on the red carpet on a sunny June day has me running to pull out those dresses I "put away for fall".

The other place where black is in....decor! Whether it be painting your kitchen cabinets a shiny black or an accent wall to make it pop, it's truly "in" when decorating your home. Here are some of my favorites!

Jenna Lyons was right on with this trend when decorating her townhouse.

Doesn't this kitchen just make you want to entertain? Although I will admit, I had a black sink in our last place and it's HARD to keep clean.

Not only are walls and cabinets turning up black, but so are the accessories, like this piece from Devon & Devon. Yes please!

Above is one of the best examples of black done "cozy" if you ask me; although, I may just stick to a standout fireplace. One of my very favorite images from Lonny magazine.

Tie-the-Knot Tuesday {setting your table}

Now that I'm in full wedding mode all I've been thinking about is what to register for. To be honest, it has been a bit stressful. I want to choose timeless, practical items. Most people say that if you don't register for china you will probably never buy it yourself. Luckily, I have an aunt gifting me one of her china sets and my mother giving me my grandmother's silverware. I could not be more excited about having these specials gifts, plus, the way I entertain, I'll only ever use china on holidays (when I live in a home where I can actually host) or special occassions. I will admit, looking at all the possible settings for china makes me giddy and I think I could "play house and set the table" every single day while choosing different combinations.

Brides.com has a great partnership with Bloomingdales and a "Set Your Table Top Tool" where my imagination can run wild. I took a few stabs at these mostly outrageous settings because, well, pretending never gets old!

For everyday, I love the basketweave plates and this charger....so fun!

Black makes a statement for a ladies brunch; the dragonfly on the Kate Spade June Lane collection is just right. With this setting, no fancy napkins or tableclothes are needed.

Who can resist the Hermes orange? If I walked into a home with a tabletop that stands out like this, I'd be the first one sitting down!

So tell me, what are your thoughts on china? Unnecesary, or good to keep around for those special occassions?

Simple Living

It's been a very busy weekend and as always, I cannot believe it's Monday...again. Between the heat in Boston, the humidity and the crazy rain we've had, I'm ready for a vacation. Spending sunny days lying on the beach, cooking delicious food and catching up on my reading sounds good right about now. If I had the chance, I'd escape to one of the islands around us and hopefully stay in a home like this. Simple and clutter-free.

I'd love to walk to the pool and swim, while enjoying a nice cold glass of lemonade....

And in the afternoon, come sit on the porch as the sun sets to read for a bit...

Before I retreat to this kitchen to prepare a simple dinner.

And end the day lounging here with family and friends.

Love those props....

While flipping through the new Canadian House & Home I found Lara McGraw, a prop and food stylist who knows how to throw a fabulous gathering at the last minute. Not only is her kitchen amazing (you'll have to get the magazine to see it) but her work is too. I am always impressed with anyone that can style food and bring all those pictures to life that I LOVE looking at in magazines. Seriously, I just spent a good half hour just staring at the images on her site.

Her holiday styles are impeccable but I fell for this pretty outdoor tablescape. I'm guessing by the pumpkins that this is for a fall party but I love the pops of purples on the bright green lawn. Perfect for a summer gathering!

I'm thinking add a little bit of red and you can call this your 4th of July party!

I'm back from a fun-filled weekend in Chicago with my sisters. There's lots to do but I had such a nice email from Aimee Empey in my inbox recently. Carlee and I met her on a recent night out and she explained how she's an artistd right in Charlestown, MA. When noticing two engaged gals like ourselves, she told us about her cake toppers. One fabulous kitchen makeover...

Not sure why I don't subscribe to Canadian House & Homes because I buy it monthly. It is, without a doubt, one of my favorites. Recently, Lynda Reeves, publisher of the magazine, renovated her kitchen. I would be lying if I said I wasn't in love. It's a perfect mix of sophistication with an urban vibe and I would love to move right in! Be sure to check out all the other shots here.

Is it just me or do you all love peeking in everyone's cabinets? Those brass knobs are amazing and I LOVE how all the plates and platters go together, and look amazing through the glass.

Since I am hooked on my new colors, I was immediately drawn to these amazing invites that a couple put together with Pantry Press. They seriously did not miss a beat and include EVERYTHING possible so each and every guest can enjoy the big day. While currently looking for invitations, I cannot even imagine how this HUGE suite of invites must cost but they are amazing. There is no way I'd throw this invite in the trash!

A fantastic weekend!

What do you think of the new look? I've been working on this for awhile and it's finally (almost) done! Rainy Day Templates rocks and if anyone else is looking for a blog makeover, I recommend Ellie! It's been a busy busy weekend and perfect timing for this new layout. I celebrated my birthday with the very best family and friends, watched the Lost finale and just realized I totally went to school with Chris L. on The Bachelorette! No doubt this season is going to be good.

This bathroom. Seriously, I am slightly obsessed with every single detail. The light, the marble, the splash of orange, the pretty bottles on the sink, the knobs...I could go on, and on, and on.

This was designed by SangreraBrazil Design for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. I love this so much, I am ready to hop a flight to San Fran to see it in person. This really just made my entire week.
